A Banana A Day…

You may have read about the banana myths on the internet.  This article is to address the nutrients in banana and not to discuss whether bananas are organic or not. As always, however, eat the best you can afford to buy.  It it’s organic.  Then buy it by all means.

Eating a banana brings immediate satisfaction of hunger and increase in energy because it contains natural sugars such as; glucose, sucrose and fructose combined with fiber.  Among athletes banana is considered as the go to fruit as eating 2 or more bananas 1 hour before a workout will sustain a vigorous workout of 1 hour.  There are other benefits to this popular fruit:

For pregnant women, it will help some of them with ‘morning sickness’ to snack on ripe bananas between meals to help keep blood sugar stable. Naturally high in potassium it helps to provide a stable blood pressure and banana producers are allowed to say a banana a day can help to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. This is according to the FDA in the USA.

Eating ripe bananas because they are high in fibre helps to maintain health bowel action and reduce constipation. It has a natural effect on the stomach and also helps with heart burh, so try eating a ripe banana to help with heart burn relief.  Green bananas are higher in iron than the ripe ones and provide naturel iron in the diet.

 

The banana is a hardy fruit and plays an important role in our diets. So when you go shopping or must snack, try having a banana.  But always remember, eat healthy, exercise daily,  walking for 15 minutes around your home or in the back yard or indoor if you are unable to go outdoors (but open your windows to get fresh air).  Most importantly, always go for your medical check up annually.

 

Banana Drink

For a high energy drink instead of snacking.

1 ripe banana

1 cup water

½ lime or lemon

1 stick celery

Chop celery (stalk). Cut lime or lemon and squeeze juice in blender.  Peel and cut banana. Add water and blend for 1 minute until smooth.  Drink.

Tip:  Get the best out of your freshly made drinks by consuming them immediately.  They lose their potency when they consumed late.
